Lafayette Field Hockey Edged 1-0 at Columbia

Oct. 8, 2008

Box Score

NEW YORK - The Lafayette field hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision on Wednesday night at Columbia. Sophomore goalie Kelsey Andersen recorded eight saves on nine shots on goal, but the one goal allowed was enough for Columbia to edge out the win.

The Lions struck at 19:12 in the first period. As Andersen tried to kick away the ball, Columbia deflected it and Jane Gartland snuck a shot into the cage for Columbia's only score of the game.

Of Lafayette's five shots on goal, the Leopards' best opportunity to tie the game occurred after they forced a corner less with than four minutes remaining. Maggie Condon took a direct shot on the goal and though it sailed past the goalie, Columbia's Hannah Smith was there for a defensive save.

Columbia goalie Gena Miller saved Lafayette's four other other shots on goal.

Lafayette will return to the field on Saturday against Holy Cross at noon.
