EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette field hockey team sailed to a 2-0 victory over Colgate on Saturday afternoon, notching its second shutout of the week. With the win, the Leopards sealed the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Tournament.
The teams danced toe-to-toe in the first period as both took three shots for the first 35 minutes, but it was a completely different game after the break. Lafayette poured on an offensive attack, outshooting the Raiders 12-1, thanks in part to a season-high 11 penalty corners.
"We really limited them in the second half," head coach Andrew Griffiths said. "The second half was more like our game. I think we're going into the post season on a good note."
Senior Maggie Condon gave the Leopards (12-6, 4-1) a 1-0 lead after freshman Carolyn Cabrey assisted on Condon's eighth game-winning goal at 46:53.
The Leopards enjoyed a little extra cushion after Lindsay Majno scored her second goal of the week at 62:37. Majno received the ball at midfield and drove on a breakaway toward the Colgate cage. The junior drew goalie Sarah Pedersen out of the cage and sent the ball sailing past her left side for the score.
The win was extra special for four Leopards in particular, seniors Jaclyn DiSanti, Lauren Jones, Julie McNeish and Condon, who all played their final home game of their careers.
"They're a great group," Griffths said. "They set a really good example for our team. Because of the way they've played and the way they've competed, that's going to filter down. They've left a legacy. It's nice for them to finish on a win."
Lafayette travels to Washington D.C. for the Patriot League Tournament on Nov. 7-8. Opponents are to be determined.
