Box Score
EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette tied the game four times and remained within two points through the first 43 minutes of play, but Bucknell ultimately took away the victory on Saturday afternoon at Rappolt Field. Senior attacker Maddy Booth recorded her second consecutive hat trick while junior midfielder Emily Archibald also contributed three goals.
Bucknell's Carol Donohue netted the first goal for either team three minutes into the contest, but freshman attacker Lauren Brown evened up the score just 15 seconds later. The Bison (2-1, 1-1) netted two more goals to give them a 3-1 advantage before the Leopards (0-6, 0-2) once again tied things up with goals by sophomore Maria Drehwing and Booth to make it 3-3 with 27 minutes to play in the first half.
Bucknell leapt ahead by two for a second time. Sophomore defenseman Tara Mayo scooped up the ball after the Bison turned it over near the Lafayette goal and ran it to the far restriction line before passing it off to Drehwing. Drehwing dished the ball to freshman Kendall Davis. Davis passed it to junior Kristin Ruminski who chucked it in the net, closing the gap to 5-4 with just under 12 minutes in the half. Brown scored two minutes later on a free-position attempt to tie the score for a third time.
Bucknell netted two more goals to end the half with a 7-5 edge. At the start of the second half the Bison picked up where they left off as Laura Ban Schaack's goal gave them a lead of three. Lafayette responded by scoring three of their own, two by Archibald and one by Davis, all of which came off of free-positions. It was the final tie of the game.
Lafayette remained close until the Bison went on an eight-goal spree to pull away from the Leopards. Booth broke the streak 10 minutes later with her third goal of the day. Archibald followed suit 12 seconds later to score Lafayette final goal of the afternoon. Bucknell chipped in two more in the final three minutes of the game.
Lafayette registered twice as many groundballs (11-5) with Booth leading the Leopards with three. The team also capitalized on free-position opportunities, scoring four out of five times. It was a difficult afternoon for goalies from both sides as sophomore Emily Bjork made two saves for the Leopards and Alyssa DeLorenz stopped four shots for Bucknell.
The Leopards will travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. to play a neutral-site game against St. Mary's (Ca.) on Mar. 20 at 9 a.m.
