EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette Field Hockey Team could not capitalize off a last-second corner opportunity and lost its first home game of the season on Sunday afternoon in a 2-1 defeat to Drexel.

The loss snapped a five-game home winning streak for the Leopards. Their last loss was on Oct. 13, 2007, when No. 16 American handed Lafayette an 8-0 defeat.

Though Lafayette (4-3) and Drexel (6-2) tied for shots in the first half, the Dragons' Jordan Freese and Susan Ciufo were able to capitalize with goals. The two scored within nearly two minutes of each other and the Leopards faced a 2-0 deficit entering halftime.

But Lafayette refused to back down and played feverishly in the second half. Assisted by Jaclyn DiSanti, senior Maggie Condon found the cage at 55:17 in the second period.

Lafayette forced six corners in the second period, including a last-second opportunity to tie the game, but the Leopards did not get a decent look at the cage as the clock expired.

"They are a very good team and we certainly had the better of the second half," head coach Andrew Griffiths said. "But today they were the better team overall. We weren't really efficient with our chances."

Lafayette will look to take back Rappolt Field on Wednesday night when the Leopards face Monmouth at 7 p.m.
