EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette women's lacrosse head coach Ali Fisher has announced Lauren Morton will join her staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2009 season. Morton was a four-year letterwinner at Boston University and graduated high school from Gwynedd Mercy Academy in Spring House, Pa.
"We are delighted to have Lauren join our staff for the coming year," Fisher said. "She is a charismatic coach who relates exceptionally well to our players. Having played for one of the most respected programs in the country, she brings with her a wealth of knowledge and great insight into achieving success at the most competitive level of the sport. She is certain to have a positive impact on all those associated with our program."
Morton played four years of varsity lacrosse at Boston University and was a member of four America East Conference championship teams, two of which advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament. Morton, who served as team captain as a junior and senior, finished her career as the Terriers' all-time leader in draw controls and received the Aldo "Buff" Donelli and John B. Simpson leadership awards as a senior.
She was named the 2008 team MVP during a season in which Boston University advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. That season, Morton was also selected to the IWLCA All-America Second Team. In addition, she received IWLCA All-Region First-Team honors as a senior and Second Team recognition as a junior. Following her rookie season, she was named to the America East Conference All-Rookie and All-Championship teams.
In addition to her playing career, Morton has served as the coach of Ultimate Goal Lacrosse since 2004 and has worked as a lacrosse camp counselor at several colleges and universities, including Duke, Boston University, Maryland and Princeton.
Morton, a two-time student-athlete honor roll member, graduated from Boston University in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. She currently resides in Glenside, Pa.
The Leopards kick-off their 2009 campaign on Feb. 18 at Penn State.
