Lewisburg, Pa. - Both Lafayette and Bucknell came into the match-up Saturday afternoon off incredible winning streaks. Bucknell was on a five home game winning streak, while the Leopards were on a six game winning streak. Unfortunately the Leopards had their winning streak snapped when the Bison beat them 1-0.
Lafayette leads the all-time series 10-29-2. The two teams split their match-ups last season with Lafayette winning the regular-season game 2-1 and Bucknell winning in the Patriot League Tournament 4-2.
Bucknell and Lafayette (8-2, 0-1) appeared relatively evenly matched through the first frame. Both teams had scoring opportunities, although the Leopards managed only one shot in the opening half. Bucknell, however, got off five shots, two of them on goal.
The lone goal of the game came from Bucknell's Corinne Raczek. Raczek got the ball past her opponent in net for her first goal of the season and second of her career. The Leopards came out in the second half looking like the defensive team that could brag about such a statistic. The Bison were unable to maintain control of the ball and play continued in front of the Bucknell goal for much of the second half.
Bucknell out-shot Lafayette 9-4. Shots by the Leopards were taking by Amanda Saber (2), Deanna DiCroce and Maria Machalick. Goalkeeper Kelsey Andersen had four saves in the game, only allowing the one goal.
The Leopards will take on Ivy League competitor Columbia Wednesday at 7 p.m.
