LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Leopard offense came up short against Big East foe Louisville in midweek women's lacrosse action. Three different Lafayette players scored in the game but the Cardinals' 18 goals presented an insurmountable challenge for the Leopards.
Louisville (5-1) more than tripled Lafayette in shots (35-10) and committed only 14 turnovers to the Leopards' 24. Lisa O'Donnell, Julia Bateman and Andrea Corpora were the lone goal-scorers for Lafayette (0-8). Goalie Alexa Biale made nine saves in her 48 minutes of action. Emily Bjork played the final 12 minutes between the pipes for Lafayette.
The Leopards managed only one goal in the opening half while Louisville scored 12 of its 18 total goals in the first 30 minutes. The Cardinals scored nine unanswered goals before Bateman put Lafayette on the scoreboard with her unassisted goal at 11:32. The Cardinals finished the half with three more goals to take a 12-1 lead at halftime.
Louisville's offensive momentum continued in the second half as Lafayette trailed 16-1 after four more Cardinal goals in the opening 16 minutes. The Leopards scored two of the game's final four goals with O'Donnell netting her goal at the 12:03 mark and Corpora scored the game's final goal with one minute to play.
Four Louisville players had multiple goals, led by Liz Lovejoy's four. Goalie Jen Heup earned the win after making four saves in her 43 minutes of action and surrendering only one goal during that span.
The Leopards return to Patriot League play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at Bucknell.
