Box Score
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Despite falling behind early, the Lafayette women's lacrosse team kept battling but ultimately fell on the wrong side of a 14-11 decision against Bucknell. Senior co-captain Emily Archibald led the way with a season-best five scores and the Leopards' 11 goals marked their highest offensive production in five games.
Lafayette (0-9, 0-3) out-scored the Bison 6-4 in the second half and took 12 shots to Bucknell's 11 in that final period. Six players in total netted goals for the Leopards, led by Archibald's five, four of which came in the second half. Freshman Lauren Curley scored twice.
Fellow freshman Alexa Biale had a solid day in goal, finishing with six saves and limiting the Bison to just four second-half goals.
The Bison (7-2, 3-0) jumped out to a 6-0 lead thanks in part to Becca Devine's three straight goals. Devine went on to finish with a game-high six scores.
Maria Drehwing broke Lafayette's scoring drought with a goal at the 12:15 mark. That goal was the first of five that the Leopards scored in the final 12 minutes of the half with all five goals coming from five different Lafayette players. Meg Ohlmacher closed out the first-half scoring with her first goal of the season with less than a minute to play to make it 10-5.
Julia Braun netted the first goal of the second half to up her team's lead to six (11-5), but Arhcibald's goal less than 20 seconds later kept it a five-goal game (11-6). Two more Bucknell goals in less than a minute made the score 13-6, but with 23:36 left to play there was plenty of time for the Leopards to attempt a comeback.
Archibald scored her third goal at 23:19 but Bucknell still led 14-7 after Devine's sixth and final goal of the game. The Leopards' offense did not back off, however, as Curley and Archibald both scored twice a nine-minute span to make it 14-11 with six minutes of action left. Neither team found the back of the net, though, over those final six minutes as Bucknell held on for the win.
The Leopards return home for two games beginning on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. contest against Sacred Heart.
