ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Lafayette women's lacrosse team opened its Patriot League season with a 19-4 loss to Navy in Annapolis. Four different players scored for the Leopards but the Midshipmen's offense proved too much to overcome.
Emily Archibald, Courtney Bryan, Sydney Peyser and Margaux LeBuffe provided the offense for Lafayette (0-6, 0-1). Goalies Emily Bjork and Alexa Biale each played a half.
The Leopards were out-shot 18-7 in the first half and 31-14 for the game. Mary Ruttum led all scorers with four goals and was one of five Navy players with multiple goals.
The Midshipmen (3-1, 1-0) jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Bryan got the Leopards on the scoreboard with her goal at the 10:30 mark off an assist from Lauren Brown. Navy scored another five straight goals before LeBuffe came through with her second goal of the season at the two minute-mark to make it 11-2 at the half.
Coming out of halftime, it took Emily Archibald less than a minute to score Lafayette's third goal. The Midshipmen regained momentum, however, by scoring seven unanswered goals. Peyser scored Lafayette's final goal on an assist from Lauren Curley.
The Leopards return home next Saturday to face Patriot League rival Lehigh at 4 p.m.
