EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette freshman Rob Robertson was named the Patriot League's Golfer of the Month on Thursday, becoming Lafayette's first golfer recognized with the honor since the conference began bestowing the award in 2003.
Robertson joined the team in the off-season as a transfer from Purdue. In addition to balancing math, economics, government and geology courses with a lab, the Economics and Business major has wasted no time making an impression on the course by posting two solid finishes in the month of March.
"Rob has certainly provided a spark," head coach Jim Hutnik said. "His play has inspired the rest of the team to play better."
The Philadelphia, Pa., native is coming off a third-place finish at Monmouth University's Hawk Invitational in Lakewood, N.J, on March 28-29. His two-round score of 2-over par 146 was the highest finish of four Leopards in the top-10. Lafayette placed second out of 12 teams, trailing first place Sacred Heart by just one stroke.
Robertson opened the spring season at the St. Thomas Aquinas Invitational in Ocean City, Md., on March 20-21 when he ranked with the team's second-best score (154) to finish 13th overall. He rebounded with a par 72 in the second round after shooting an 82 in the first round.
Lafayette hosts its only invitational of the season this weekend when its welcomes 20 schools to the Center Valley Country Club.
