EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette Sports Network, in cooperation with RCN, will re-air four Lafayette football classic games from the past four years between April 30 and May 8.
The first game to air will be the 141st meeting of Lafayette and Lehigh in college football's most-played rivalry on Thursday, April 30 at 1:30 p.m. Leopard fans have no problem recalling Pat Davis' heave to Jonathan Hurt for the go-ahead touchdown with 38 seconds remaining to give Lafayette the 23-19 victory over the Mountain Hawks.
The following day at 1:30 p.m., RCN will let Lafayette faithful relive the Leopards' 21-16 win over Atlantic 10 foe Richmond in 2004. A desperation Richmond toss into the endzone as time expired was tipped and caught by a Richmond receiver, temporarily giving the Spiders the victory. After a nearly 15-minute discussion, the officials ruled that a receiver had illegally touched the pass after stepping out of bounds. Lafayette was forced to accept the penalty, giving Richmond an untimed down from the 23. The final pass fell incomplete, and the Leopards celebrated the statement victory.
Six days later, another 2004 game will take the stage when Lafayette's dramatic 14-13 win over Bucknell is re-aired at 1:30 p.m. Leading by one, wide receiver Joe Ort was placed onto special teams and blocked a potential game-winning Bison field goal on the final play of the game as the Leopards walked away with the crucial league victory.
The final of the four classics will re-air the next day, Friday May 8 at 1:30 p.m. The most recent of the four, RCN will re-air the showdown between Lafayette and Penn from 2007. After senior quarterback Mike DiPaola engineered a 12-play, 44 yard drive to put the Leopards in position, Davis Rodriquez's 27-yard field goal with five seconds remaining in the game gave the Leopards' an 8-7 victory at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
Each classic telecast will air on RCN-4 in the Lehigh Valley and RCN-8 in Philadelphia.
