Doherty Final Addition to Men's Basketball Coaching Staff

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette men's basketball coach Fran O'Hanlon has hired Pat Doherty as an assistant coach. Doherty replaces Peter Schwethelm to fill the final void on Fran O'Hanlon's coaching staff.

"We are very excited to welcome back Pat to our basketball program," O'Hanlon said. "His experiences and insight into the challenges of being a Lafayette student-athlete, together with his energy and enthusiasm for the school, will help immensely as we move forward in a highly competitive Patriot League."

Doherty spent the 2008-09 season as an assistant coach at Williams College, a Division III institution in Williamstown, Mass. During the 2008-09 campaign, Doherty helped lead the Ephs to a 17-9 overall record and a 6-3 in the NESCAC Conference where the Ephs advanced to the semifinals.

During the 2007-08 season, Doherty was as an assistant coach at The College of New Jersey, a Division III school in Ewing, N J. Prior to his stint at TCNJ, Doherty was an assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach at Central Bucks East High School in Doylestown, Pa. from 2006-07.

Doherty graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lafayette with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Spanish and was a Marquis Scholar, the college's highest academic scholarship. He was a walk-on player for Lafayette during the 2000-01 season.

Doherty has worked with The Hoop Group as a coach and site facilitator and also served as a program director for PeacePlayers International and worked in Northern Ireland. PeacePlayers is a non-profit organization that uses the game of basketball to unite and educate children and their communities in areas of the world that are historically characterized by strife. During his time in Northern Ireland, Doherty was a Player/Coach for Northstar Basketball Club.
