EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette's second Patriot League game of the season did not come without a fight. The Leopards and Bison exchanged goals in the second half and at the end of the 70 minutes Lafayette walked away with a 4-2 win on Saturday afternoon at Rappolt Field.
Lafayette (5-6, 2-0) scored 10 minutes into the game, as Jaclyn White found the ball in the middle of the circle and sent it to the back of the cage on the left corner past Bucknell's Sarah Zargarpour.
Sixteen minutes later the Leopards scored again, as freshman Haley Keenan got to the ball in the circle and fed it to Deanna DiCroce who shot high over the keepers head to give Lafayette a 2-0 lead going into the half.
Both teams came out of the half fired up as the Leopards and the Bison exchanged goals in the final 35 minutes of play. Bucknell (5-7, 1-1) was able to get the first score of the half, as Christine Weiss scored off one of Bucknell's four penalty corners.
The Leopards answered back off their own penalty corner as sophomore Maria Machalick took the insertion from DiCroce and scored from the top of the circle.
Two minutes later, Bucknell's Rachel Misko ran down the right side of the field and got the ball past Lafayette's Kelsey Andersen to cut the Leopard lead to 3-2.
In the 56th minute of the game, Machalick found the ball on Lafayette's side of the field and ran the ball down to Bucknell's goal and passed it to freshmen Kristin Heaney, who tapped it to DiCroce who was able to get the ball past the keeper into the back of the cage and seal the 4-2 win for the Leopards.
Lafayette outshot Bucknell 12-8 while Zargarpour made four saves and Andersen walked away with five. Bucknell edge out Lafayette in corners 4-3.
"It was a tough game today for both teams," said head coach Andrew Griffiths. "I am glad we were able to get on the board first and early. Bucknell came out playing strong in the second half, challenging our defense. Luckily we were able to come together as a team and get off another two goals and pick up the win."
The Leopards take a break from Patriot League action and head to New York to take on Columbia on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
