KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Lafayette softball team dropped its opening games at the Rebel Spring Games on Monday morning. The Leopards fell in a hard-fought game against Manhattan, 1-0, and dropped a 12-2 decision against Cleveland State. Lafayette sits at 2-4 for the season.
In the first game against Manhattan, senior pitch Kasey Karr pitched six innings and had six strikeouts. She gave up five hits and walked two in her first loss of the season.
Stacey Kushner and Kristin Garganio both went 2-for-4. The Leopards were only able to get six hits in the game.
In the second game against Cleveland State, Christina Giambrone doubled to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning to bring Karr home and give the Leopards their first run of the game. Kushner followed with a ground out second base that brought Gwen Turner home to score.
Christine Hilcken pitched three innings in the loss, with six hits and eight runs allowed, while Emily Noel threw for two innings and gave up four runs.
Lafayette will compete in day two of the Rebel Spring Games when the Leopards face Manhattan for the second time at 9 a.m. and Hartford at 11 a.m.
