PRINCETON, N.J. - Lafayette traveled to Princeton for its second road game of the weekend on Sunday afternoon. The Leopards scored nine runs in the last inning, including a Kasey Karr grand slam to beat the Tigers 14-4 in six innings. The second game of the double-header was cancelled due to poor field conditions.
In the first inning, Karr singled to the shortstop and walked on a wild pitch to second. Stacey Kushner followed with a home run to right center field to give Lafayette (8-9) the early 2-0 lead.
The Leopards added three more runs to their total in the third inning. Kushner was on second and Kerry Griffin on first when freshman Jordan Parsons came up to bat. Parsons singled up the middle advancing Griffin to second and bringing Kushner home for the score.
Gwen Turner gave up a sacrifice bunt that advanced Parsons to second and Griffin to third. Emily Noel followed with a walk to load the bases. Stacey Dorn single up the middle to bring home Parsons and Griffin. Lafayette led 5-0 at the end of the third. In the sixth inning, Cody Kugler, first at bat, walked followed by a double to right field by Karr bringing Kugler to third. Kushner was next at bat when she homered to left center, giving her 3 RBI.
Kristin Garganio singled up the middle followed by Griffin reaching on a fielder's choice that got Garganio out at second.
Dorn was up at bat with Noel on first, Turner on second and Griffin on third. She doubled to center field bringing Turner and Griffin home for the score. With the bases loaded, Karr got up to bat and hit a grand slam, her fifth homer of the season. The four runs brought the Leopard lead to 9-0 after six and a half innings.
Princeton (6-15) finally scored in the sixth inning with four runs. It was not enough as the game was called due to field conditions.
Karr (6-4) was awarded the win after pitching six innings, giving up seven hits and striking out two.
The Leopards return home on Tuesday when they host Iona in a double-header at 3 p.m.
