PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - A young Lafayette women's lacrosse team was led by its freshman on Saturday as the rookies combined to score five goals in the Leopards' 12-8 loss at La Salle.
Freshmen Katie Leto and Addie Godfrey added two goals apiece, as did sophomore Margaux LeBuffe. Rookie Cammie Linville also added a score. Goalie Emily Bjork registered 13 saves in her 60 minutes of work.
The Leopards (0-4) were narrowly edged in shots, 29-27, and forced La Salle goalie Megan Corliss into making 16 saves, 10 of which came in the first half.
The teams traded scores to open the game, with LeBuffe tying it at two-all with an unassisted score with 19:36 on the clock. Linville followed just 30 seconds later with another score to give the Leopards a 3-2 edge.
Meg Ohlmacher kept it a one-goal Lafayette lead (5-4) with her first score of the game with nine minutes left in the half.
That was the last time the Leopards held a lead, however, as the Explorers (2-2) finished the half with three unanswered goals to take a 7-5 lead into the locker room.
La Salle came out of halftime and scored two more goals for a 9-5 advantage.
LeBuffe and Leto scored back-to-back goals, cutting the lead to two (9-7), but managed only one more goal over the final 16 minutes of action as the Explorers went on to the 12-8 win.
Lafayette is back at home on March 10 to host Villanova at 7 p.m.
