JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Lafayette split its games against non-conference opponent St. Peter's on Tuesday afternoon. The Leopards fell 8-4 in the first game and with the help of four home runs in the second game, went on to win 8-1.
Lafayette led off with a double by Kasey Karr in the first inning. Stacey Kushner brought her home off a single to center field.
St. Peter's (2-22) took advantage of its at bats in the first inning, knocking in five runs. With a runner on first and second, Vanessa Acosta got up to the plate and hit a home run and picked up three RBI.
The final two runs of the inning came off an error on Stacey Dorn that brought Nicole Schnecker around before Ashley Brown scored on a wild pitch.
In the second inning, Carly Feiro doubled to center field followed by a wild pitch that put her in scoring position. Karr brought her home off a single. Lafayette trailed 5-2.
The Peahens scored two more runs in the fourth inning; the two runs came off an error by second baseman, Jordan Parsons and St. Peter's took a 7-2 lead going into the fifth.
Kushner got up to bat after Kristin Garganio popped up to the shortstop and hit a home run to left field and scored the Leopards' third run of the game.
St. Peter's added one more run in the sixth when Acosta hit her second home run of the game.
Lafayette's third homer of the game in came the seventh inning by Kushner, but St. Peter's held on and grabbed the first game from the Leopards, 8-4.
In the loss, Ali Henry pitched 2.2 innings giving up seven hits for five runs. Karr came in to relieve Henry and pitched 3.1 innings, striking out four and giving up three runs.
The Leopards (11-22) came back strong in the second game, hitting four home runs in the 8-1 win.
Leading off for Lafayette was Karr with a double, followed by a Parsons single up the middle. Karr advanced to third and Garganio came up to the plate and hit her second homer of the season and picked up three RBI. Lafayette led, 3-0.
The Leopards had another two home runs in the third inning. Kushner hit her seventh home run this year followed by a walk to Kerry Griffin. Stacey Dorn got up to bat and hit the second homer of the inning bring herself and Griffin home. Leopards took a 6-0 lead.
The lone run from St. Peter's came in the third inning, Acosta singled through the right side bring to home Stephanie Gilronian.
The Leopards scored their last two runs in the fourth inning when Cody Kugler led off with a single up the middle. Parsons, hit the games fourth home run picking, up two RBI.
Christine Hilcken pitched all seven innings in the win. She gave up one run and struck out six batters.
The Leopards return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Philadelphia and take on Penn for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
