WORCHESTER, Mass. - The Lafayette softball team held strong in the second game of the four-game series against Holy Cross and bet the Crusaders 3-0 after falling 9-2 in the opening game on Saturday afternoon.
In the second game the Leopards (14-28, 3-11) brought in runs early in the first inning, freshman Jordan Parsons reached on an error followed by a Kasey Karr home run to left field picking up two RBI.
Lafayette scored its final run in the third inning as Kerry Griffin singled to right center bringing home Karr who was on third base. The Leopard's defense held strong not allowing a Crusader to score a single run.
Karr pitched the entire game in the win giving up five hits and striking out two batters. In the first game Ali Henry pitched six innings in the loss giving up nine runs and 16 hits.
In the first game of the series Lafayette scored a run in the opening inning as Gwen Turner led off with a bunt and was able to advance to third on the play off an error by the Holy Cross pitcher.
Holy Cross (11-26, 5-8) knocked off three runs in the first inning, when Caitlin Belanger led off the bottom of the first inning with a double to left field to get the Holy Cross offense rolling. Belanger advanced to third base on a single by Erin Fleming and scored on a ground out by Sam Fregenti. With Fleming on third base, junior Keeley Seniuk hit a home run over the left field fence to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Crusaders.
The Crusaders added two more runs in the second inning when Amanda Audette hit a two-run home run to left field. A run in the third inning made the score 6-1.
The Leopards scored in the top of the fourth when Carly Feiro singled to the shortstop and brought Griffin around for the score, Holy Cross answered back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game 9-2.
The Leopards will close out the series tomorrow in Worchester; the games have been moved to 10 a.m. and noon due to a chance of rain.
