EASTON, Pa. - The Leopards closed out their 2010 home season with a senior celebration at Fisher Stadium that unfortunately ended in a 15-8 loss against Patriot League opponent Colgate.
Lafayette (3-11, 1-3) was well within reach at halftime, trailing 9-6, but the offense managed only two second-half goals.
The teams were nearly even in most categories as Colgate (7-6, 3-1) held just a slim, 30-27 edge in shots and forced 26 Leopard turnovers while committing 25 of its own. The biggest difference came in draw controls, in which the Raiders held a 16-9 edge.
Freshman Addie Godfrey led the Leopards with three goals and also added an assist for a four-point night. Senior goalie Emily Bjork played all 60 minutes and racked up nine saves, including seven in the first half.
Godfrey got the scoring started early, netting a goal off a Cammie Linville assist less three minutes into the action.
The Raiders rattled off three unanswered scores in a seven-minute span to take a 3-1 advantage.
Freshman Victoria Maxon broke the streak with a goal at 18:40 before three more Colgate goals made it a four-goal contest (6-2) with 14:29 left in the half.
This time, however, it was Lafayette's turn to go on a scoring streak. The Leopards netted an impressive three goals in a 60-second span, all from different players, and Colgate suddenly saw its lead shrink to one (6-5).
The Raiders prevented the Leopards from actually tying the game by scoring three of the half's final four goals to take the 9-6 lead into halftime.
Colgate came out in the second half and took control of the game, outscoring Lafayette 6-2. That included keeping Lafayette's offense without a goal for nearly 22 minutes. Meanwhile, the Raiders built their lead to eight (15-7) before holding on for the 15-8 victory.
The Leopards close out the regular season with three straight games on the road, beginning Wednesday with a 4 p.m. game at Sacred Heart.
