EASTON, Pa. - The Leopards finished off the Outdoor Patriot League Championships with a number of great performances and three individual league titles. The men finished fourth with 89 points while the women's team finished tied for sixth with Colgate with 56 points.
Senior Kyle Clayton led the way with two individual league championships. Clayton won the 100m in 10.61 and the 200m in 21.24. His 200m time broke a school record that was shared for over 35 years. Clayton's 100m time now ranks him second in school history.
Additionally, Clayton ran a blistering anchor on the 4 x 100m relay that finished second in a school record time of 41.08. Other members of the team were Bradley Williams, Adam Ballester and Nick DeRosa. Clayton finished his Patriot League career with eight individual league championships.
Lafayette's other league champion was Kerry Taylor in the women's 3000m steeplechase. The Lafayette school record holder in that event passed the second place Army runner over the last 50m to win the title in 11:21.6 just .2 seconds ahead of second place.
Nick DeRosa palced second in the 200m behind Clayton in 21.78, while Ryan Stasiowski finished third in the 3000m steeplechase in a personal best time of 9:15.3.
Senior Sifiso Takirambudde added a pair of fourth place finishes in the 110m hurdles (14.65) and the 400m hurdles (54.64) while classmate Sean Casey added a fourth place finish in the 800m (1:52.10).
The 4x400m relay team of DeRosa, Ballester, Casey and Williams also finished fourth with a season's best 3:16.71 which was an IC4A qualifier. Rounding out the men's scorers were Williams, fifth in the triple jump, 47'5", and Ballester, sixth in the 200m at 22.24.
For the women, junior Kelly Clyde had an outstanding meet. Clyde earned a pair of third place finishes in the 100m (12.60) and 200m (25.66). Clyde ran a leg on the both 4x100m relay that clocked in at 48.63 to finish fourth and 4 x 400m relay that placed fifth (3:57.32).
Clyde was joined on the 4 x 100m relay by Jill Dozier, Megan Matusky and Kyara Gray. The 4 x 400m relay team consisted of Clyde, Adedayo Adu, Matusky and Gray.
Gray added a fourth place finish in the 400m with a personal best time of 57.28, while Margaret Bruno-Metzger scored in two events for the Leopards. She earned fourth in the 1500m (4:35.43) and sixth in the 800m (2:15.99).
The Leopards also had four other scorers on the day. Liz Graybill finished fifth in the discus at 128'9" with freshman Gwen Steckel adding a sixth place finish at 125'0".
Kerriann Borke came in fifth in the triple jump (36'10.5") and Stephanie Hazlett placed fifth in the heptathlon in a lifetime best 4,100 points. The Leopards will next be in action on May 14-16 when the men compete in the IC4A Championships and the women at the ECAC Championships.
