The Lafayette track and field team traveled to the Armory to host the Lafayette/Rider Invitational on Friday night. With the Patriot League Championships looming next week, both the men's & women's teams produced a number of excellent performances.
Two Leopard men earned themselves spots at next month's IC4A Championships. Senior Ryan Stasiowski finished third in the mile with a personal best time of 4:13.25 while sophomore Dayne Mosconi finished fourth in the 1000m with a personal best time of 2:29.77.
Nick Henderson earned a fifth-place finish in the Pole Vault at 15' 3" while Michael Thompson and Greg Stripe also finishing in the top 10 with jumps of 14' 9.
Sophomore Will Volkmann had a personal best with a sixth place finish in the 5000m (15:10.87). A number of other Leopard men posted personal bests at the meet: Jerome Rudolph in the 60m Dash (7.08), Nick Hepp in the 200m (22.63), Ryan McVeigh in the 500m (1:06.16), Bill Leonard (1:06.26) and Michael Kelley in the 3000m (9:06.30).
The youth movement continues on the women's side as freshmen Rose Willey and Rachel Pena posted huge personal bests with second-place finishes in their respective events. Willey finished second in the 3000m at 10:11.12 which was a 20 second best and fifth all time in school history.
Pena finished second in the 20lb weight throw at 51' 5 1/2" which was a four-foot personal best and fifth all-time in school history. Pena also had a personal best in the shot put (41' 1 3/4") while finishing fifth.
Kelly Clyde was second in the 60m dash at 7.92 while Kerriann Borke placed the same in the triple jump at 37' 3 1/4". Brooke Kohler led a very strong contingent of women pole vaulters with a second-place finish at a height of 11' 3 3/4".
Just behind Kohler were Elise Buffinton, Rebecca Slotkin and Jenn Kihm finishing fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, all at 10'10". Gwen Steckel add a third-place finish in the 20lb weight throw with a personal best of 49' 9".
Joelle Neilson was fourth in the long jump (17' 6 1/4"). Allison Hawkey finished fifth in the 800m (2:18.34) with Kelly Senters finishing sixth at 2:21.08. Lauren Kelly added a fifth-place finish in the 5000m (17:46.69) which was a 20 second personal best.
Lafayette and the rest of the Patriot League heads down to Annapolis for the Patriot League Championships this weekend.
