EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette football has signed 28 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the Class of 2015.
The Leopards' coaching staff recruited 15 defensive and 13 offensive players among the class. Offensively, there are six offensive linemen, three wide receivers, two quarterbacks, one tailback and one tight end. Defensively, five linemen and five linebackers are coming to campus along with four defensive backs and a kicker/punter.
The members of the Class of 2015 come to College Hill from 12 states, with 11 players from Pennsylvania, five from New Jersey, two each from Connecticut and Georgia and one player from California, Florida, Maryland, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio and Virginia.
"We are extremely pleased with the recruiting class. It was imperative that this class equalled or surpassed what was a very good class a year ago when we brought in 33 student-athletes," said Lafayette head coach Frank Tavani. "I think we certainly met or exceeded last year's talent level and depth, and these two classes will go a long way to maintaining the stability and championship expectations we have of our program. We are very proud that over 90 percent of the class received high academic honors."
The offensive linemen average 6-4, 285 pounds and the defensive linemen will average 6-4, 225 to go along with a 6-3, 250-pound punter/kicker. There are three players named Zach/Zack on the list.
The Leopard football program has been a consistent winner, seeing just two losing seasons in the last nine. Lafayette lays claim to Patriot League titles in 1992, 1994, 2004, 2005 and 2006. In 2010, the Leopards went 2-9, snapping a streak of six seasons with a winning record while also being nationally ranked.
On Saturday, April 16, fans will get their first opportunity to see the 2011 Leopards in action in the annual Maroon-White Spring Game. The controlled scrimmage is set to begin at 11 a.m. at Fisher Stadium.
Lafayette will open the 2011 regular season with its first-ever trip to North Dakota State, a game that kicks off four in a row on the road. The Fisher Stadium home slate begins Oct. 1 vs. Harvard at 6 p.m. Season tickets, the only way to secure a ticket to the 147th meeting of College's Football's Most-Played Rivalry with Lehigh, will be available in May. Past season ticketholders will have the opportunity to renew their ticket packages in April.
