The Lafayette track & field team split this weekend traveling to the Covert Classic at Lehigh and to the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the New York City Armory this weekend. It was a small group that competed, but it proved to be a very successful weekend.
The Leopard men won four events at the Covert Classic; junior Nick Henderson led the way with an all-time personal best in the pole vault winning with a jump of 15' 5".
In the sprints, Jerome Rudolph won the 60m dash at 7.14 while David Robinson won the 200m at 22.96. Sophomore Dayne Mosconi took the top spot in the 800m (1:59.68).
Mike DiPietro placed third in the both the 60m (7.21) and the 200m (23.08). The 200m time was a personal best for DiPietro.
Robinson also was fourth in the 60m clocking in at 7.29. The Leopard men also had a pair fourth place finishes with Nick Orzol in the 60m Hurdles (8.84) and Mac Maguire in the 35lb Weight (43' 10 3/4").
Krista Woodward led the way for the Leopard women as she won the high jump at 5' 2 1/4". A number of younger Leopards made their mark at this meet. Rebecca Slotkin placed second in the pole vault with a jump of 11' 3 3/4" with Elise Buffinton taking third at 10' 4".
Rachel Pena placed second in the shot put with a throw of 40' 1 1/2". In the 20lb weight throw, Gwen Steckel place third with a toss of 48' 6" with Pena finishing fourth as well at 47' 6 1/4". Both women set new personal bests.
Kelly Senters continued the youth movement with a third-place finish in the 800m at 2:25.27.
Seniors Kerriann Borke and Jennifer Kihm earned fourth-place finishes in the long jump ( 17' 0") and the pole vault (10' 4") respectively.
At the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, the Leopard team of Kelly Clyde, Adedayo Adu, Kathryn White and Megan Matusky finished third in their heat of the 4x400m relay running a season's best of 3:58.07.
The men's 4x400m of Nick Hepp, Nick DeRosa, Ryan McVeigh and Bill Leonard were fourth in their heat with a season's best of 3:21.62.
The entire Leopard team will be back in action Friday when it hosts the Lafayette-Rider Winter Games at the NYC Armory.
