STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Trailing 6-5 going into the second half of Tuesday's non-conference game with Wagner, the Lafayette men's lacrosse team outscored the Seahawks 7-2 in the third quarter on its way to a 16-8 win in Staten Island, N.Y. Senior co-captain Tom Perini set a Lafayette single-game record with eight goals on the afternoon.

Lafayette (2-1) started its scoring when a successful clear led to Paul Hammer's first career goal with 12:53 remaining in the first quarter.

After Wagner claimed a 2-1 lead, Perini evened the score off an assist from junior Colin Serling.

Wagner answered with a goal to close the first period scoring and open the second period before Perini tallied his second of the game, this time off an assist from junior Will Heffernan.

When the Seahawks pushed the advantage to 6-4, the Leopards scored back-to-back goals from senior Franklin Floyd and Serling (Ryan Hansen assist) to knot the game at five with 1:11 remaining in the opening half. However, the Seahawks again closed the quarter with momentum, this time with four seconds left to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.

It was all Lafayette in the decisive third quarter, outscoring Wagner 7-2. Four-straight goals, three from Perini and one from freshman Jake Mann stretched the Leopard lead to three (9-6). The goal was Mann's first of his Leopard career.

Senior Doug Prusoff handed out the assist on the final Leopard goal of the run, a man-up goal with 8:57 remaining in the third quarter.

An even-strength Seahawk goal was immediately answered by another Lafayette run, this time three consecutive goals, one each from Hansen, Perini (Floyd assist) and Mann.

Wagner closed the third quarter scoring with 34 seconds left, but the Leopards closed the game strong, outscoring the Seahawks 4-0 in the final period, using two goals from senior Tyler Silvey (both Prusoff assists) and Perini's record-breaking seventh and eighth goals of the afternoon.

Reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Andrijko Andrusko turned in his second-straight, double-digit save performance, racking up 14 stops on the afternoon.

The Leopards assisted on nine of their 16 goals, led by three each from Serling and Prusoff.

Senior co-captain Cesar Munoz was again solid in the face-off department, winning 18 of 27 opportunities, including a perfect 10-for-10 in the decisive third quarter.

Lafayette outshot the Seahawks 48-36 and and picked up eight more ground balls than Wagner (23-15).

The Leopards will take the rest of the week to prepare for a Friday night trip to Philadelphia. Lafayette will take on Penn at 7 p.m.

NOTES:
Senior co-captain Stefan Bauer missed his second consecutive game while recovering from an injury.

Perini's eight goals puts him at 110 career goals, sixth all-time in Lafayette history, four behind Kevin Bromby '01. He is 13 goals shy of Evan Deoul's '84 Lafayette career goals record.
