EASTON, Pa. - Following a 45-minute delay due to lightning to start the game, the Lafayette men's lacrosse team battled Patriot League rival Colgate to a 11-10 battle in a driving rainstorm at Fisher Stadium on Saturday evening.
Senior Tom Perini set the Lafayette career goals record with his third quarter goal. The loss officially eliminates the Leopards from Patriot League Tournament contention.
The Leopards opened the scoring as Perini rifled a shot into the back of the net with 13:26 left in the opening quarter to give Lafayette a 1-0 advantage.
After Colgate rattled off two straight goals, another Leopard co-captain Cesar Munoz recorded a goal at the 13:26 mark of the second quarter to pull Lafayette back within one at 3-2.
The Leopards continued to pressure and took advantage of a man-up situation, as Tyler Silvey found Colin Serling to knot the game at three with 12:21 remaining until halftime.
Another Raider goal was answered by another Leopard co-captain, this time with Stefan Bauer taking a Munoz assist, as the Leopards regained the lead with 14 seconds left until intermission.
Lafayette came out of halftime energized and opened the second half scoring with Perini's record-breaker, a man-up goal off a Franklin Floyd assist. The goal was the 124th of his storied Leopard career.
Colgate responded with three straight goals in the next six minutes, taking a 7-6 lead with 7:42 left in the third period.
The rest of the period belonged to Lafayette, as unassisted goals from Connor Brennan and Alex Floeck gave the Leopards all the momentum going into the final period. Brennan's was the first of his senior season, fittingly coming on Senior Night at Fisher Stadium.

Serling's second goal of the evening came at the 11:37 mark of the period, but was quickly answered by a face-off win and goal by Jim Carroll five seconds later.
Following another 30-minute lightning delay, the Raiders regained the lead at 10-9 just 45 seconds back from the break.
The Leopards responded, this time with Perini's third goal of the game off Bauer's first assist of the evening, tying the game at 10.
Colgate scored with 3:47 remaining the make it 11-10 and regained possession with just under three minutes left, but turned it over with a groundball from goalkeeper Andrijko Andrusko.
Lafayette successfully cleared into the Raider zone and used its final timeout to set its possession. The Leopards worked the ball around until Bauer found Perini in the left alley. His shot beat the Colgate goalkeeper but bounced off the right post deflected away.
That was the final chance for the Leopards, as Colgate walked away with an 11-10 victory.
Lafayette wraps up its 2011 campaign at Lehigh next Saturday. Face-off is set for 7 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa.
