BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lafayette track and field team competed at the Greyhound Invitational hosted by Moravian College over the weekend. Freshman Elise Buffinton highlighted the meet with a Lafayette record in the pole vault with a jump of 11' 9 3/4". The jump was a second-place finish.
Senior Lauren Kelly competed at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic qualifying for the ECAC in the 10,000m run with a time of 36:50.81. This was the first time the senior competed in the event.
Other performances from Bethlehem came from, Michael Thompson in the pole vault. Thompson placed second with a jump of 14'9". In the hammer throw, Matt Crystal placed fifth with a throw of 158'9".
Senior co-captain Kerriann Borke finished fourth in the long jump at 17'7" while freshman Rachel Pena also placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 40'0". Freshman Alexandra Hunsberger placed third in the javelin with a throw of 129'3".
In the women's discus throw, Gwen Steckel threw for 136'3" for a third-place finish while Crystal, who also placed third, threw for 143'10" on the men's side.
On the track, junior Adedayo Adu placed fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 59.39 while sophomore Kelly Senters finished sixth clocking in at 1:06.34 in the 400m hurdles.
In the men's 400m hurdles, sophomore Ryan McVeigh came in fourth at 55.60 and Nick DeRosa placed seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 22.28.
In the women's 5000m run, Tracey Kelly clocked in at 19:11.03 for a sixth-place finish while the women's 4x400m relay time placed sixth with a time of 4:10.61. Annie Aaroe, Allison Hawkey, Elizabethann Coradino and Jennifer St. Onge made up the relay team.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Dayne Mosconi, Derrick Hargwood, Chris Parker and Chris Pregler finished eighth with a time of 3:29.92.
The men's and women's track and field team are back in action this weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational held at Princeton University.
