HAMILTON, N.Y. - Stacey Kushner's two-run homer helped lift Lafayette to a 4-3 win over Colgate in the Patriot League regular-season finale on Sunday.
After losing the first game of the afternoon, 12-3, the Leopards avoided the series sweep with the one-run victory.
Lafayette led from the outset in the finale, taking a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the second when Lauren Murphy (double) and Kerry Griffin (sac fly) each drove in runs.
Colgate answered with lone scores in the third and fifth to knot the game at 2-2. Kushner's two-run blast in the sixth put the Leopards ahead 4-2.
In the top of the seventh with two outs, Colgate tacked on a solo homer by Stephanie Hartquist (3-for-4) to run the final to 4-3.
Ali Henry won her second game of the season, scattering nine hits for two earned runs with a walk and three strikeouts. Courtney O'Donnell (9-10) was the loser, allowing two earned on five hits over six innings.
In the first game on Saturday, the teams were tied at three through five complete innings before Colgate broke out for nine runs over the sixth and seventh in a 12-3 final.
Trailing 2-0 in the third, Lafayette tied the game with two runs in the third inning. Mary Episcopo's two-run homer with Gwen Turner (single) aboard knotted the game at 2-2.
The teams traded runs in the fourth inning. Alana Dyson's infield single plated the Raiders' run while Stacey Dorn's third home run of the season accounted for Lafayette's run.
Colgate (25-19, 16-3) broke open the game with six runs on six hits in the sixth to lead 9-3. Nicole Seidhof's solo homer started things for the Raiders who added three more in the seventh to clinch the game.
Lauren Hasson (0-9) allowed 10 runs on 12 hits with two walks and two strikeouts in the loss. Rachel LeCoq (16-7) threw five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits.
Lafayette closes out the season on Wednesday hosting Marist in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. The doubleheader will serve as a Breast Cancer Awareness "Score for the cure day" event.
