Parker and DeRosa Pace Lafayette at Great Dane Classic

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Members of the Lafayette men's and women's track and field team competed in the Albany Great Dane Classic at the NYC Armory on Friday. As a team the Lafayette men ranked 25th of the 26 participating teams, but recorded a pair of first-place finishes in individual heats.

Junior middle distance runner Chris Parker claimed the top spot in the third heat of the 800m run, crossing the line in 1:53.90 to place 11th overall in the event. The Leopards' other top finisher was senior Nick DeRosa, who clocked in at 22.24 in the 200m dash, good for 13th overall. Parker and DeRosa each qualified for the IC4A Championships in their respective events.

DeRosa also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay team that earned an eighth place time of 3:20.98 and took second in its heat. Juniors Nick Hepp and Ryan McVeigh linked up with sophomore Bill Leonard to represent Lafayette in the four-man race.

Individually, Hepp posted a time of 22.61 for third in heat nine of the 200m dash and 28th overall.

Leonard (50.59) and McVeigh (52.16) each ran in the 400m dash, taking the 21st and 41st positions, respectively.

Two Leopards represented the Maroon and White in heat two of the 1-mile run, junior Dayne Mosconi and freshman Andrew Haff. Mosconi took fourth in the heat, and 17th overall, crossing the line in 4:19.62 while Haff clocked in at 4:31.04 in 34th position.

Senior Chris Pregler recorded a time of 1:07.66 in the 500m dash for a 23rd overall and fifth in his individual race.

The 800m run saw senior Matt Piazza record a time of 1:57.85, also good for 23rd among the competitors.Zach Lizmi's time of 9:09.76 in the 3,000m run placed him in 38th and 23rd in heat one.

A pair of personal bests were achieved on the women's side for Lafayette as Adedayo Adu clocked in at 58.79 in the 400m dashand Sarah Welsh-Huggins finished the mile run in 5:05.70. Both times rank sixth all-time in Lafayette history.

Lafayette continues its busy weekend on Saturday when it travels down the road to Bethlehem, Pa. to compete in the Mountain Hawk Multi Invite.
