EASTON, Pa. - Late in the second half, senior captain Sean Peckham calmly settled a ball inside the NJIT 18-yard box and put it home, propelling Lafayette to a 1-0 win over NJIT on Tuesday night at Oaks Stadium.

Peckham's second marker of the year came in the 81st minute after Tom McCutcheon sent a cross to his feet at the penalty spot. Peckham broke the deadlock with a right-footed strike into the left side of the goal past Highlanders' keeper Lars Maalen-Johansen.

With the win, Lafayette improves to 6-7-2 overall, while NJIT falls to 8-7-0.

The first half was played largely between each penalty area as the teams combined for five shots. Lafayette had three, each from outside the NJIT 18-yard box, while the Highlanders registered two. The closest either side came to scoring was D.J. Diveney's deflection that caught the outside part of the post to Lafayette goalie Nathan McDonald's right.

In the 66th minute Josh Brown's throw-in deep in the NJIT end found Brandon Turner's head inside the box and the junior flicked it into the center of the area for McCutcheon. The sophomore got off a right-footed one-time shot, but the bouncing ball was snatched by Maalen-Johansen.

Maaleen-Johansen finished with three saves on the night and McDonald didn't make any in his fouth shutout of the year. The Leopards' junior keeper now has seven for his career.

Shots favored Lafayette (7-3) in the match, while NJIT took five corners, compared to Lafayette's two.

Lafayette resumes Patriot League play on Saturday when it travels to Hamilton, N.Y. to meet Colgate. Kickoff from Van Doren Field is set for 4 p.m.
