HAMILTON, N.Y. - After scoring a goal less than three minutes in, Lafayette bounced back from a 2-1 halftime deficit to earn a draw after 110:00 on Saturday afternoon at Van Doren Field.
With the result, Lafayette claims a point and sits at 2-1-2 (8 points) in the Patriot League, while Colgate remains unbeaten at 2-0-3 (9 points).
Kyle Scharfenberg gave Lafayette a 1-0 lead 2:23 into the match when he scored off the rebound of Nate Arronson's shot that was blocked by the Raiders' defense. Scharfenberg's second of the year beat Colgate's goalie Grant Reed for Lafayette's quickest goal of the season. Reed finished with four saves in the match.
The home side responded early in the 19th minute when Tyler Forbes netted the first of his two opening-half goals. Forbes set up inside the Leopards' six-yard box and put home a cross from the endline by Mike Reidy to knot the score at 1-1.
The score held until the 44th minute when Forbes added his second on a header, sending Colgate into the locker room with a 2-1 advantage.
Brandon Turner evened the score at two apiece with his second tally in as many Patroit League games when he headed in a cross by Scharfenberg in the 57th minute. Turner, the reigning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, contributed his second goal of the year on the play.
Colgate, which scored twice in the opening 45 minutes, was limited to just two shots on goal after intermission. The Raiders finished with five shots on target, one shy of Lafayette's six. The Leopards also took one more corner kick (5-4).
Lafayette returns home on Oct. 27 when it plays Army at Oaks Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. and the contest can be seen on GoLeopards.com/allaccess.
