Elise Buffinton Shines at Lafayette/Rider Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Lafayette track and field team hosted the Lafayette/Rider Invitational on Friday at the NYC Armory as a final tune-up before the Patriot League Championships.

Elise Buffinton stole the show in the pole vault, claiming the top spot with her jump of 11' 9.75'' and setting the Lafayette school record in the process. The height was also good enough to qualify her for the ECAC Championships. Freshman Claire Murphy also competed in the vault, and took 10thwith a leap of 10'10''.

In the college 500m dash, Lafayette was represented in the second, third and fourth positions. Freshman Jennifer Schroeder led the way with her time of 1:23.61 and was followed by classmate Kendall Berry at 1:24.38. Junior Jennifer St. Onge took the fourth spot, clocking in at 1:27.69.

Chelsea Marone took seventh in the 500m dash invitational with a time of 1:18.51.

The 800m run saw Grace Watters come in fifth place, as the freshman posted a time of 2:18.74.

Junior Julissa Muschlitz finished the college 1000m run in 3:20.07, earning her a fifth overall finish. The 1000m invitational had Hallie Farber cross the line in 3:05.84, good for ninth place.

Senior Erika Stasakova took fourth in the 3000m run, as she completed the race in 10:11.59.

Joelle Neilson earned herself a pair of top five finishes in the long jump and triple jump. The senior's leap of 18'7.25'' in the long jump was good for fifth in the even while her mark of 39' 0.25'' in the triple jump earned a third place finish.

Sophomore Rachel Pena's toss of 54' 4.75" in the weight throw gave her the second place slot.

For the men's team, Nick Hepp qualified for the IC4A meet in the 200m dash with his time of 22.16, which also slotted him sixth among the competition.

Chris Parker also grabbed a sixth place mark in the 800m run, crossing the line in 1:52.46. The time was a new personal best for Parker and ranks second all-time at Lafayette.

In the pole vault, senior Nick Henderson's jump of 15' 3" was good for a sixth overall finish.

Lafayette travels to Lewisburg, Pa. for the three-day Patriot League Championships set to begin on Feb. 17.
