Lafayette Falls to Bucknell in Lewisburg

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Lafayette men's lacrosse team was defeated by Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at Mathewson Stadium. The reigning Patriot League Champion Bison took a 3-0 lead and never looked back, cruising to a 17-6 win.

After falling in an early 3-0 hole, Lafayette (2-5, 0-2) got on the board when Jake Mann took a pass from Colin Serling and beat Bucknell (4-3, 2-0) goalkeeper Kyle Feeney with 3:15 remaining in the first quarter. Todd Heritage scored two of the first three goals for the Bison.

Bucknell opened the second quarter with three goals to increase its lead to 6-1 with 5:56 remaining in the half. Less than 90 seconds later, Lafayette cut the deficit to 6-2 when Geoff Stearns hooked up with Cory Scheuerle for his seventh marker of the year. The Bison answered with two more goals before halftime to push their lead to 8-2 going into the break.

In the second half, Greg Allis put one in the back of the net to pull Lafayette within five at 11:53, but the visitors wouldn't get any closer from that point on. Billy Eisenreich scored twice and Heritage added another third-quarter score before Will Heffernan made it an 11-4 game heading into the fourth quarter.

Goals by Brian Bock and Brendan Gover in the fourth wrapped up the scoring for Lafayette and Ronjohn Dadd's third goal of the period with 51 seconds left made the final score 17-6.

The Bison controlled the game statistically, winning 15-of-27 faceoffs and collected 32 ground balls compared to Lafayette's 25. Bucknell also outshot Lafayette 35-20.

Feeney made seven saves for Bucknell, while Jake Hyatt (4 saves) and Andrijko Andrusko (3 saves) spilt time in goal for Lafayette.

Lafayette returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Army at 1 p.m. at Fisher Stadium. The game will be broadcast online at goleopards.com/allaccess
