EASTON, Pa.- The Lafayette field hockey team finished off a feisty Rider squad Tuesday night with a 3-1 win at Rappolt Field. Sophomore Jenna Seybert connected on two corners for the Leopards and junior Haley Keenan added a third for the Lafayette attack.

In an oddly-structured affair, the match began with 6:15 on the clock and Lafayette leading 2-0, where the game stood on Sept. 7 before lightning forced postponement. In those approximately 29 minutes, the Leopards managed two goals to give them the advantage coming into tonight.

"It was unfortunate that we couldn't continue to play the last time we met," head coach Andrew Griffiths said. "I was happy that we were able to pick it up where we left off and get a strong win."

Senior co-captains Emily Valeo and Deanna DiCroce each recorded two assists on two Seybert corner conversions. Sophomore Brittany Blass added two shots on goal, while classmate Jessica Deutsch recorded four saves in the cage. Seybert also contributed two defensive saves to preserve the victory.

Keenan started off the scoring in the second minute as she made a hard drive from the left hand side and slid it past Rider's Joelle Prettyman for her second goal of the season.

Off a corner in the 21st minute, Seybert, Valeo, and DiCroce teamed up for their first corner goal of the night as Seybert blasted one to the left of Prettyman to put the Leopards up 2-0.

In the 51st minute, the first goal of the second session was scored as the Lafayette corner tandem connected again when Valeo gave a delayed pass to Seybert who used a deflection to nab her second goal of the game and third of the season.

Rider's leading scorer Sandra Penas broke up the shutout in the 64th minute as she sent a rocket off the left post and past Deutsch to put the Broncs on the board.

The 14th-ranked Leopards improve to 7-1 on the season as they move into Patriot League play. Lafayette will travel to Washington, D.C. on Saturday to take on American at noon.
