Saturday Night Collegiate Series Results

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Freshman Devin Smith ran a second-place school-record time of 57.02 seconds in the 400m dash, highlighting the Lafayette track & field team's effort at the Saturday Night Collegiate Series at the New York City Armory on Saturday evening.

Smith topped the former record of 57.57 seconds, set by Kate Evangelista in 2003. Classmate Stephanie Benko took the top spot in the 3000m run with a time of 10:19:03, while junior Elise Buffinton proved steady in the Pole Vault, jumping over the ECAC standard 11' 9 ¾" for third place.

Sophomore Grace Watters and senior Kelly Senters finished third and fourth with times of 2:21:37 and 2:22:28, respectively, in the 800m dash. Sophomore Brittany Powell came in fifth in the Triple Jump with a leap of 36' 8 ½" and the 4X400m relay team of seniors Chelsea Marone and Megan Matusky, junior Kathryn White and Smith took sixth, crossing the line at 4:00:28.

Overall, the women finished third with 52 points behind the University of Connecticut and the University of Pennsylvania.

On the men's side, veterans senior Chris Parker and junior David Robinson led the way. Parker took second place in the 800m dash with an IC4A qualifying time of 1:53:40, behind Robby Andrews, the former NCAA 800m champion. Robinson ran a personal best in the finals of the 60m dash to take the fourth spot with a time of 6.95 seconds, an IC4A qualifier and 10th on the all-time list.

Rounding out the top-six finishes were senior Dayne Mosconi, who took third in the 1000m run with a time of 2:30.92, and classmate Nick Orzol, who held the fifth position in the Triple Jump with a season-best leap of 44' 2".

Overall, the men took sixth place with 52 points.

The Maroon and White are back in action on Jan. 19 for the Gulden Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa. at 10:30 a.m.
