RIVERDALE, N.Y. - A string of nine straight Manhattan goals from the second to fourth quarters doomed the Lafayette men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon in Riverdale, N.Y. as it fell to the Jaspers, 11-7.

After taking care of Georgetown in overtime in the squad's season-opener, the Leopards have now dropped two straight to Stony Brook and Manhattan to move to 1-2 on the early season. The victory was Manhattan's first of the year in its home opener.

Sophomore Sonny Round continued his hot start to 2013 with three goals on the afternoon to move his season total to 11. Classmate Brian Bock added two scores for the Leopards, while juniors John Floyd and Jake Mann notched a goal apiece. Junior goalkeeper Jake Hyatt stopped 11 Jasper shots, while giving up 11 goals for his second loss of the season.

Eight different Jaspers scored the 11 goals for the Manhattan attack, led by Ryan Payton's three scores and two from Marcel Godino.

The Leopards controlled the game in faceoffs and groundballs, winning 13-of-20 from the faceoff "X" and holding a 31-29 edge in groundballs. However, 18 Lafayette turnovers and a 45-41 Manhattan advantage in shots proved to be the difference in the game.

The scoring got underway at the 9:34 mark of the first quarter when Manhattan's Patrick Hodapp slipped it past Hyatt for the first goal of the contest. From there, the Leopards took control, ripping off five goals, including two from Round, to take a 5-1 lead with 1:50 remaining in the half. Manhattan's Paul Moreau scored with a minute remaining to stop the run and put the halftime tally at 5-2.

It was all Manhattan coming out in the third quarter as the Jaspers took over the contest with eight straight goals, taking over the lead and pushing the score to 10-5 with 5:15 remaining in the contest.

The Leopards were able to notch two more tallies, but could not pull of the comeback in the final minutes, falling with a final of 11-7.

Next up for Lafayette is a trip to Wagner on Tuesday to take on the Seahawks at 2 p.m.
