EASTON, Pa.- The Lafayette women's lacrosse team ran into a hot Delaware team on Saturday afternoon inside Fisher Stadium. The Blue Hens, coming off a 10-9 win over No. 11 Loyola earlier in the week, defeated the Leopards, 19-7, in a non-league contest. Lafayette fell to 6-3, while Delaware improved to 5-3.
The Leopards celebrated Senior Day as Lafayette senior attackers Katie Leto, Addie Godfrey, Katie Mischler, Victoria Maxon, Ana Drehwing, and Jessica Rothstein, midfielder Cammie Linville, and defender Caitlin Mitchell were honored for their contributions to the program.
Senior Addie Godfrey and junior Laura Kleiber led the Leopards with two goals apiece, while senior Jessica Rothstein, junior Ana White and freshman Carlianne McCabe rounded out the scoring. Junior Meghan Curtin made a season-high 12 saves in the loss.
The Blue Hens' offense was powered by Allison Hahn's five goals and one assist and Caitlin McCartney's four goals and one assist. Alex Zaugra made six saves for Delaware to earn her sixth win of the season.
Delaware got off to a quick start just 32 seconds into the game as Hahn gave the Blue Hens the early 1-0 lead. Lafayette answered back as Rothstein and White netted back-to-back goals to give the Leopards their only lead of the afternoon, 2-1.
The Blue Hens scored the next five goals to regain the lead, 6-2 with 13:55 left in the half. Kleiber slowed the Delaware run momentarily, cutting the lead to 6-3 on a free-position goal with 13:10 remaining in the half. Delaware netted the next four goals before Godfrey closed the half with two scores, her 35th and 36th of the season, to trim the Blue Hen lead to 10-5.
In the second half, Delaware rattled off four goals in the first ten minutes to push its lead to 14-5. Lafayette scored its only two goals of the session as McCabe and Kleiber netted two in a row to make it 14-7 with 15:40 to play.
The Blue Hens slowed the game down over the final fifteen minutes, scoring five more goals in that span to finish the game with a 19-7 victory.
Lafayette is back in action on Tuesday as it hosts La Salle at Rappolt Field at 7 p.m.
