EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's lacrosse team played La Salle to a 6-6 tie at halftime, but the Explorers were able to pull away for an 11-8 victory on Tuesday evening at Rappolt Field. Lafayette drops to 6-4, while the Explorers improve to 8-1.

Junior Laura Kleiber paced the Leopards' offense, scoring four goals, while classmate Ana White netted two goals and an assist. Seniors Jessica Rothstein and Cammie Linville rounded out the scoring with a score apiece. Sophomore Mimi Connell suffered the loss, giving up three goals in 4:47 of action, while junior Meghan Curtin made six saves in 55:13 of work.

Caitlin Brostrand led the Explorers with a five-goal effort and Katelyn Fay, Lauren McDermott and Melanie Sarcinello each chipped in with two goals. Maura Malone earned her eighth win, making 11 saves.

Lafayette got off to a fast start taking the early 1-0 lead on Kleiber's first goal. La Salle answered with 26:52 left in the half, but White finished a free-position attempt with 22:04 to play in the first half to regain the lead for the Leopards. The following draw control was picked up by Kleiber, who took the ball down the field and was fouled. She finished her free-position attempt with 21:45 left in the first half to increase the Lafayette lead.

Freshman Carlianne McCabe caused a La Salle turnover, and found senior Victoria Maxon behind the goal at the 20:57 mark. The senior fed White in front for another score, making it 4-1. Kleiber extended the Leopards' lead to 5-1 on a free-position shot with 19:13 on the clock in the first half.

From there, La Salle went on a five-goal spurt to regain the lead just before the half, but the Leopards answered with four seconds to go. White won the draw and found a streaking Melissa Galione running down the field. The freshman then hit a cutting Rothstein in front of the net who beat the goalie to send the game to the half knotted at 6.

La Salle scored the first two of the second half before White fed Linville for her tenth score of the season, cutting the lead to 8-7 with 25:26 remaining. The Explorers pushed the lead to 9-7 less than 20 seconds later, but the Leopards answered again on Kleiber's fourth goal of the night courtesy of a Rothstein pass.

Lafayette trailed 9-8 at that point, but that would be as close as the Leopards would come as the Explorers scored with 22:13 left in the game, giving them a 10-8 lead that La Salle held until under two minutes to play. La Salle pushed the lead to three with 1:28 to play, and held on to upend Lafayette, 11-8.

The Leopards are back in action this Saturday in Annapolis, Md. as they take on Navy at noon in a Patriot League contest.
