EASTON, Pa. - Holding a lead at halftime, the Lafayette men's lacrosse team looked like it had a chance to knock off Patriot League power Colgate on Saturday afternoon at Fisher Stadium. Unfortunately for the home Maroon and White, the Raiders outscored the Leopards, 10-5 in the final two quarters to take the 14-10 victory.

A freak 40-yard goal from Colgate's Bobby Lawrence to begin the fourth quarter killed the Leopards' comeback hopes and pushed the Raiders' lead to three, one they would never relinquish.

Lafayette was led offensively by a stellar sophomore duo in Brian Bock and Sonny Round. Bock recorded two goals and two assists, while Round added two goals and one assist of his own. Freshman Kevin Wanke chipped in with two goals, while sophomore Cory Scheuerle, freshman Morgan Westby, junior John Floyd and senior Greg Rau rounded out the scoring with one apiece.

Six seniors were honored before the game for their contributions to the Leopards' lacrosse program over the past four years. The Lafayette men's lacrosse Class of 2013 includes John Bolton, Ed Stubits, James Fahey, Geoff Stearns, co-captain Anthony Zawadzki and Rau.

Reigning Tewaaraton Award winner Peter Baum led a balanced Colgate attack that included four players with multiple tallies. Baum notched three goals and one assist, while Brendon McCann and Eric Foote each tallied three apiece with Foote adding an assist. Ryan Walsh was the fourth with two scores on the day.

Faceoffs proved to be the main story of the game as Colgate's 20-7 edge led to a 47-34 shot advantage for the game. Lafayette edged the Raiders in ground balls, 24-23, and converted on two of its six extra-man opportunities.

Both sides traded goals in the early-going as the game was knotted at three apiece with 8:42 remaining in the second quarter. Back-to-back tallies from Round and Wanke put the Leopards on top, 5-3, their largest lead of the game, with 6:39 left in the half.

Baum finally made his presence known as he launched a strike at the 2:48 mark to send the game to the locker room with Lafayette on top, 5-4.

The Raiders struck for four-in-a-row coming out of the break and it looked as if the game was going to get out of reach. Instead, Westby notched a tally to stop the run at the 10:12 mark in the third and Bock and Scheuerle each piggybacked off that goal to tie the game at eight apiece with 4:49 left in the third.

Another four-goal string from Colgate followed and this time, it was too late to overcome, as the Raiders cruised in the fourth to a 14-10 victory.

Next up for the Leopards is their final game of the season on Saturday against archrival No. 18/19 Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. at 1 p.m.
