EASTON, Pa. - In a game that included two runs of four goals or more from each side, American's final seven-goal string toward the end of the second half propelled them to the 15-11 victory over the Lafayette women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon at Rappolt Field.

Lafayette jumped out to an early 6-1 lead with 7:04 to play in the first half, but was outscored 14-5 for the final 37:04 for its third League loss of the season, pushing its record to 8-7 and 2-3 in league play. American moves to 5-0 in conference games for the first time in its history.

A game that was much more important for the American sideline for playoff seedings, Lafayette moves on to face Colgate next Saturday for a spot in the Patriot League Tournament. The Raiders and Leopards are tied for fourth in the standings and a win would propel either side into the final tournament spot.

The game was even in most of the statistical categories as each team notched 23 shots and five saves. American's 16-11 draw control advantage proved to be a major factor as it was able to grab the draw and score quickly in transition multiple times throughout the game.

Lafayette senior Addie Godfrey led the attack with four goals, while junior Ana White tallied three goals and two assists and classmate Laura Kleiber added two goals and an assist. American's Jordan Harrington was extremely difficult to cover, posting five goals and two assists for seven points on the day.

Senior Jessica Rothstein and White initiated the scoring as the first 23 minutes of the game were dominated by the Maroon and White. They scored six of the first seven goals, including two from Godfrey to take the 6-1 lead with 7:04 to play in the half.

Harrington tallied two and Terese Buechli was able to slip one past Curtin with 1.9 seconds remaining on the clock to send the game into the locker room with the Leopards leading, 6-4.

Coming out of the break, American continued its momentum as two goals from Harrington and one apiece from Emily Maher and Alex Lugovina put the Eagles on top, 8-6, with 25:02 to play.

Lafayette stormed back with four goals of its own to retake the lead with 20:46 on the clock on a tally from White and added an insurance goal from Kleiber on a free-position opportunity to go up, 10-8, with 18:04 remaining.

American went on to score seven of the final eight goals, however, and used its stall offense to run the clock out on the Lafayette comeback, taking the game with a final of 15-11.

Lafayette will use a mid-week non-conference matchup with No. 7 Penn State to prepare for the critical Patriot League matchup with Colgate on Saturday. Draw from State College is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday and the final game of the season will occur at 1 p.m. in Hamilton, N.Y.
