LEWISBURG, Pa. - Neither starting pitcher surrendered an earned run, but Bucknell took advantage of a four-run fourth inning en route to a 4-0 win in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Depew Field.
Bucknell (15-29, 9-8 Patriot) took advantage of two Lafayette miscues in the home half of the fourth inning and scored four unearned runs despite Michael Massa's four strikeouts in the frame. The Bison scored the first two runs on a bunt single by Anthony Gingerelli and Robb Scott's fielder's choice before Corey Furman's two-run single to right center field put Bucknell ahead 4-0.
The four-run lead was more than enough for Bucknell's Bryson Hough, who pitched a complete-game shutout in his third victory of the season. The right-hander surrendered three hits and one walk to the 25 batters he faced and struck out four Lafayette hitters. Hough tossed perfect 1-2-3 innings in the first, third and seventh, and worked around two Lafayette hits in the sixth when Andrew Santomauro singled and Andrew Ruck doubled after a double play.
Massa was charged with the hard-luck loss and finished his complete-game effort with seven strikeouts. The Leopards' lefty walked three, but only gave up three hits in his six innings.
The loss officially eliminated Lafayette (7-36, 4-13 Patriot) from Patriot League postseason contention. Game two of Saturday's doubleheader is underway and fans can follow along online by using .
