BALTIMORE, Md. - The Lafayette swimming and diving teams opened the 2014-15 season against Seton Hall, Drexel and host Loyola on Saturday at the Mangione Pool in the Fitness and Aquatics Center.

Freshman Sydney Wight was a top performer in her collegiate debut, capturing the 100 butterfly in 58:61. That mark put her eighth in the school's all-time top 10 in the event. Wight also placed third in the 100 freestyle (54.34) and fourth in the 200 free (1:59.05). She swam the first leg of the 400-yard free relay that placed second in 3:39.14.

In addition to handling the anchor leg of that relay, senior Megan Kaveney took home second place in the 50 free (24.62), missing out on the top spot but one one hundredth of a second. She also claimed third in the 100-yard event (54.34) in a tie with teammate Wight.

In the butterfly events, Jaclyn Andrews claimed fourth spot in the 200 (2:13.96) and fifth in the 100 (59.92). Jane Kuntz added a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM (2:13.88).

For the men, junior Greg Grewal won the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming to the wall in a time of 57.63 (the fourth-best time in school history). Grewal also took second place in the 200 breast (2:11.35).

Junior Robert Lowery notched a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (48.46) and Christopher Wickwire was fifth in the 100 fly (52.65).

In the women's team scoring, Drexel (182.5-109.5), Loyola (206-88), and Seton Hall (199-95) topped the Leopards. Drexel (223-75), Loyola (194-104) and Seton Hall (215-79) produced similar results on the men's side.

Lafayette's next competition is Nov. 8 against American, Navy and Bucknell at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium.
