New York, N.Y. - The Lafayette swim and diving team battled rival Lehigh on Friday night in New York City. The teams met at Lehman College for their annual dual meet.
The team fell to Lehigh 402.5-188.5 overall. Lehigh took the men's event, 191-107, and also won the women's meet, 211.5-81.5.
In the men's meet, Greg Grewal led the way for the Leopards, winning the 100 and 200 breast. His 55:26 mark in the 100 breast made the NCAA Division B cut. Grewal also took second in the 200 IM.
Senior Evan Newbold won the 100 back, while junior Robert Lowery moved up the all-time top 10 in the 50 and 100 free and the 100 free relay split. Freshman Sam Haines also moved into the all-time top 10 in the 100 and 200 fly and the 100 relay split.
Christopher Wickwire won the 100 fly and placed second in the 200 fly. His time of 49.67 in the 100 fly missed the school record by 0.08 seconds. Ivan Basurto won the 3-meter diving event, while the men's 400 medley relay consisting of Newbold, Grewal, Wickwire and Lowery won the event, and just missed the school record by less than a second.
On the women's side, Jane Kuntz moved into the all-time top ten in three events, the 100 and 200 breast, and the 400 yard medley. Jaclyn Andrews also broke two school records, the 100 and 200 fly. Sydney Wright moved into the top 10 in both the 100 fly and the 100 free.
Lafayette's next competition is Jan. 17 against Army and Colgate.
