ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Lafayette continued with a strong showing on day two of the 2014 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday at the U.S. Naval Academy's Lejeune Hall.
In the morning preliminaries, Lafayette had four swimmers post times that rank in Lafayette's all-time top 10: Adam Gill in the 500 freestyle (4:41.94), Greg Grewal (1:53.04) and Kate Durkan (2:11.33) in the 200 individual medley and Evan Newbold in the 50 free (21.19).
Grewal was the lone Leopard individual swimmer to advance to the finals on day two, competing in the 200 IM. He improved his time to 1:52.74 in the finals, placing him second all-time behind school recordholder Andrew Rutherfurd.
The women's 200 free relay narrowly missed the school record by 0.4. Durkan and Allie Berger's splits put them in the all time top 10 at 9th and 10th, respectively.
The men's 200 free relay finished seventh with solid splits from Joshua Hitchings, Christopher Wickwire, Robert Lowery and Newbold.
Scoring wise, the Lafayette men are currently in seventh place, 5.5 points out of sixth place behind Loyola while the women are ninth, three points shy of American.
"Tomorrow and Saturday are our best days," said Lafayette head coach Jim Dailey. "I expect some very good performances tomorrow."
The Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships resume on Friday at Lejeune Hall. .
