Track and Field Wraps Up PL Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - On the second and final day of the Patriot League Championships, the Lafayette Track and Field teams finished seventh on the women's side and sixth on the men's.

For the women, Stephanie Benko earned the lone first-place finish for the Leopards on Saturday afternoon. She topped all competitors in the 3000 meters Steeplechase with a time of 10:41.40. The sophomore also earned points for the Maroon & White, coming in sixth in the 5000 meter run.

Haley Langton, Erin Keen, Devin Smith and Drew Davis ran the 4x400 meter relay in 3:49.89 which was good enough for third. The foursome of Keen, Mara Blanchard, Langton and Smith finished in the fourth spot in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 47.83.

Rounding out the top four finishers for the women were Rachel Douglas and Rachel Pena. Douglas jumped a high of 1.60 meters in the high jump and Pena had a throw of 12.97 meters in the shot put.

Also earning top eight nods were Langton with a sixth place finish in the 400 meter dash (57.52), Smith came in seventh in the 100 meter dash (12.32) and Dejana Harris also finished in the seventh spot in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.93.

On the men's side, Chris Castello was the top finisher for Lafayette, earning third place in the Decathlon with 6290 points.

The group of David Robinson, Marcus Vilme, Michael Smitelli and Jarrel Bobb were the next highest, coming in fourth place in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 41.86. Bobb also came in fifth place in the triple jump with a jump of 14.12 meters.

Tim Shaw, Thomas Day and Austin Wiles all notched sixth place finishes for the Leopards. Shaw ran a 54.46 in the 400 meter hurdles and Day came in with a time of 9:30.54 in the 3000 meters Steeplechase. Wiles jumped 1.89 meters in the high jump.

Rounding out top eight finishes for the men's squad were Bobb, Shaw, Neil Franzese and Preston Bejaberg who ran a 3:25.16 in the 4x400 meters relay to come in seventh.

Next up for the team is the ECAC/IC4A Championships in two weeks which will be held in Princeton, N.J.
