Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Lafayette men's soccer team fell in heartbreaking fashion on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 1-0 decision in overtime to American in Washington, D.C.

The Leopards played defensive for the majority of the contest, tallying all three of their shots in the first half of play. Lafayette sat back throughout the game, on the lower end of a 20-3 shot line. Additionally, corners were 9-1 in favor of the Eagles.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brian Ehrlich made his first career start in net and was fantastic on the day, making seven saves, but unfortunately allowing the only goal. Lafayette also recorded a defensive save to help send the game into extra time.

American's Dale Ludwig was the hero for the home side, taking advantage of a defensive miscue and sending a feed from teammate Jordan Manley into the back of the net to seal the fate in a 1-0 home victory.

The loss is the first in Patriot League action for Lafayette, dropping the Maroon and White to 2-1-1 in league action and 5-3-4 overall. American improves to 8-4-1 on the year and 2-2-0 in conference play.

Next up for the Leopards is their final non-conference match of the season, traveling to NJIT on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
