EASTON, Pa. - A strong first half from Navy was too much for Lafayette to overcome on Tuesday night in Fisher Stadium, as the Mids took down the Leopards in Patriot League men's lacrosse action.

Lafayette (1-4, 0-3 PL) was led by Scott McAvoy with a pair of goals and Jason Sands with a goal and an assist. Matt Cortese made 11 saves in the loss, while Erik Cannon led the defense with four caused turnovers.

Navy (4-3, 2-1 PL) won 17-of-25 faceoffs on its way to an 18-4 win. T.J. Hanzsche and Kevin Wendel netted hat tricks for the Mids, while Patrick Keena tallied two goals and three assists in the game. John Connors made six saves to pick up the win.

The Midsbuilt an 11-goal lead midway through the second quarter before McAvoy found the back of the net for the Leopards. The Mids went into the half with a 14-1 advantage.

Out of the halftime break, Lafayette took advantage of a man-up situation when Morgan Westby found Sands for his fifth goal of the season. Five minutes later, Eric Joseph's solo effort produced another Lafayette marker at the 7:09 mark of the third period.

Sands collected his team-leading 10th assist of the year when he found McAvoy for his second tally of the night. Navy added two more in the final ten minutes to walk away with the win.

Lafayette's man-down defense, which ranked third nationally going into tonight's game, was solid throughout the night. The Leopards held the Mids to just one extra-man goal on six attempts.

The Maroon and White continue Patriot League play at Boston University on Saturday afternoon. Opening draw from Boston is set for 1 p.m.
