Five Leopards Land on PL 25th Anniversary Team

Aug. 13, 2015

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - No Patriot League field hockey team has won more than the nine conference championships earned by Lafayette since the conference's formation in 1990, and the Leopards were heavily represented on the sport's 25th Anniversary Team revealed by the league office Thursday morning.

Andrea Dagostino '94, Deanna DiCroce '13, Suzi Farrell '92, Megan Monahan '03 and Jennifer Stone '04 were each selected to the prestigious squad of 25. All five were part of championship-winning teams, and each are prominently featured in the Patriot League record book.

The Leopards were a perfect 16-0 in conference contests during Dagostino's four-year collegiate career. A midfielder, Dagostino was named the 1990 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, and she was an All-Patriot League performer in each of her final three seasons. As a senior in 1993, Dagostino helped lead Lafayette to an ECAC Division I championship. She was honored as an NFHCA Third-Team All-American that fall.

DiCroce concluded her time as a Leopard with back-to-back Patriot League championships in 2011 and 2012, and she was voted as the conference's Offensive Player of the Year during both title runs. One of only five players in conference history to be recognized as a First-Team All-Patriot League performer in each of her four seasons, DiCroce was additionally a Third-Team All-American as a senior. She sits second in conference history with 150 points overall.

Farrell was only a part of the Patriot League for two of her four seasons at Lafayette, but she certainly made that time count, earning Player of the Year status in both 1990 and 1991. A Second-Team All-American in 1990, Farrell remains the school's all-time leading goal scorer (79) and point producer (176), and the 47 goals she netted while Lafayette was a member of the Patriot League continue to rank her in the top 10 historically among league players.

Farrell's 33-goal, 70-point campaign in 1990 had paced the conference record book until Monahan's senior season in 2002. Monahan matched Farrell's 33-goal output, and she surpassed her for the conference lead with an incredible 80 points that season, helping lead the Leopards to a 19-3 record and their seventh Patriot League crown. Monahan was named a Second-Team All-American that fall, to go along with her third-straight First-Team All-Patriot League selection. She leads the league in career points (160) and goals (65).

About to enter her third season as Lafayette's head coach, Stone had a memorable playing career on College Hill as well. She landed on the All-Patriot League First Team in 2001, 2002 and 2003, and was honored as a Second-Team All-American as a senior after tallying 24 goals and 50 points. Each of those totals remain ranked in the top five historically. Stone was named Offensive Player of the Year that season, helping that trophy remain on College Hill for a third-straight fall after Monahan was recognized in both 2001 and 2002.

The Patriot League is releasing 25th Anniversary Teams throughout the month of August for each sport that has been sponsored by the League since it became an all-sport conference beginning in the 1990-91 season. In addition to the 25th Anniversary Teams, coverage throughout the 2015-16 season will focus on former student-athletes and top stories in the history of the Patriot League.
