EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's lacrosse team led by an 8-5 score at the halftime break against Boston U. on Saturday afternoon at a snowy Fisher Stadium, but the Leopards surrendered 10 Terrier goals in the second half to drop a 15-10 contest.
The game was evenly played throughout, with the Leopards putting in a strong first-half performance that saw three goals off the stick of Kirsten Wilhelmsen. Those tallies extended the junior's streak to 13 straight games with at least three points.
Carlianne McCabe's second score of the opening stanza with 7:40 to play sent the game into the break with the Leopards on top, 8-5. Then, the game shifted and Lafayette struggled to recover.
Boston U. came out in the second half and put up five straight goals to take over the lead at 10-8 with 19:10 to go. Emma Novick's 30th goal of the season ended the run, bringing the Leopards back within one at 10-9, but four more from the Terriers put the game out of reach late. Maggie Carver's unassisted tally with 2:10 remaining proved to be the final Leopards score as Boston U. went home with a 15-10 win.
Anna Raymond and Allie Abacherli both saw time between the pipes on Saturday, with Raymond picking up the loss on 13 goals allowed and three saves in 50:46 of action. Abacherli made two stops and let in two scores in her 9:14 of playing time. On the other side, Caroline Meegan stopped a number of doorstep chances to improve her record to 5-4 on the year, totaling nine saves on the afternoon.
The visitors led in shots, 27-23, and ground balls, 12-11. Lafayette showed improvement in the circle, winning the draw-control battle, 16-11, but the Leopards cleared on just eight of their 12 attempts on the day.
