EASTON, Pa. -- Four-time All-Patriot League First-Team selection Matt Smalley (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) has inked a three-year contract with the N.Y. Giants. Smalley was coming off an appearance at the Giants' rookie camp last week as a tryout player.
Smalley is coming off a standout College Hill career at cornerback and kick returner. In his senior season last fall he started all nine games in which he played, finishing fifth on the team in tackles (44) while adding an interception. For his career, Smalley played in 42 games with 30 starts. He totaled seven interceptions and is part of a select group of players to earn varsity letters in every season on College Hill. In 2013 and 2014, he was a first-team selection at defensive back and in 2013 he added first-team honors at return specialist after finishing eighth in the nation in kick return yardage.
"I'm blessed to have taken another step to accomplishing one of my life goals," Smalley said. "The New York Giants have given me this opportunity, and for that I am truly thankful. I sincerely appreciate the support from my family, friends and the Lafayette community throughout this journey. I'm excited to represent Lafayette while continuing to play the game that I love."
Smalley will continue his workouts before attending the Giants' training camp in July and August.
