Lafayette Athletics Participates in Sixth Annual Kirchhoff Challenge

EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette student-athletes and athletics staff participated in the sixth annual Kirchhoff Challenge on Friday April 28 at Fisher Stadium. The athletes and staff raised $4,600 for Project A.L.S., which has given more than $75 million to research programs fighting the disease.

The event, which is a series of different physical tasks completed for time, is named in honor of Tom Kirchhoff '93, who passed away in March 2015 after a five-year battle with A.L.S.

For the student-athlete portion of the competition, Kaitlynn Ewing from field hockey took the women's top spot with a time of 10:34 and teammate Ellen Colbourne finished second with a time of 10:57. On the men's side, basketball's Nick Lindner placed first with a time of 8:52 with men's lacrosse's Will McCarthy finishing second in 9:03.

Assistant field hockey coach Emily Janis was the top finisher among women's athletic staff for the second year in a row with a time of 9:58. On the men's athletic staff side, football linebacker coach Nick Lezynski finished with a time of 9:08. First-year head football coach John Garrett won the over-50 division, edging out head baseball coach Joe Kinney.

In the team portion, which is determined by money raised and average finish time, the men's basketball team claimed the top spot with a time of 10:38. Football was the top fundraiser, bringing in $2,707 towards to the cause.
